Charles M. “Buddy” Mayo joined the faculty at Kennesaw State University Fall 2006. He has taught at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga , Louisiana State University and the University of Southern Mississippi. While at LSU Mayo was co-director of the Media Leaders Forum, a quarterly assessment of the thoughts and opinions of America's top media executives, and was chair of the Health, the Environment and the Economy Conference, an annual conference that brought together journalists, researchers and policy-makers to discuss the complex issues surrounding media coverage of the environment. At USM Mayo was part of a team that reorganized the School of Mass Communication and Journalism, and he helped establish the Southern Miss Entertainment Industry Program on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He also worked to establish the School's first Advisory Board and served on the President's Council, a committee of faculty and staff charged with aiding the USM president with communication issues. Buddy earned his Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Alabama in 1993, a Master's degree in Marketing from the University of Alabama in 1989, and a Master's degree in Mass Communication from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1976. He worked in public relations, advertising and marketing for 12 years, mostly in higher education and health care.

Buddy Mayo's research interests include public opinion, business-to-business communication, and marketing communication. He has published in Journalism Quarterly, Communication Research , the Journal of Business and Technical Communication, the Journal of Promotion Management , Business Research Yearbook and other mass communication scholarly and professional publications. He has also presented at numerous academic and professional conferences.

Buddy and his wife Donna have two sons, Benjamin, a senior at Auburn University, and Zachary, a second-year student at the University of Virginia.
