Before completing a prerequisite or closed override form, you MUST read the following information and indicate (in the boxes below) that you understand the terms.

PREREQUISITE OVERRIDE REQUESTS

The Department of Communication strongly upholds the prerequisites for its courses.

Prerequisite overrides are meant to be used in the following cases ONLY:

  1. Student has completed the required prerequisites, but because he/she is a transfer student or completed the prereqs under different titles/numbers, the computer does not recognize it. *We will check to see if you have the required prereqs.
  2. The student is NOT a Communication major but must take the course as part of another major (i.e., Sports Management). The prereqs are not necessarily applicable in these cases.
  3. There is a DOCUMENTED emergency situation requiring special consideration by the department chair.
I have read the preceding information and understand the requirements for a PREREQUISITE override.

CLOSED OVERRIDE REQUESTS

Please be aware that, in most cases, the department is NOT able to approve closed override requests. Because we strive to offer as many seats as possible, courses are normally listed at maximum capacity when registration opens and can not accommodate additional students due to fire code or limited seating.

*We can NOT approve closed overrides for courses taught in our computer labs (rooms 3024 or 5105), so please do not submit overrides for these courses. Lab rooms have a finite number of computer stations with specialized software, so additional students can not be accommodated. The only way to obtain a seat in a lab class is to monitor the Banner registration system and add the course if another student drops it.

In several non-lab classrooms, we may be able to add an additional student if there is a DOCUMENTED emergency situation requiring special consideration from the department chair. In this situation, a student should submit a closed override request.

I have read the preceding information and understand the circumstances for a CLOSED override.
