Dr. Philip Aust came to Kennesaw State University (KSU) in spring 2005 from Illinois State University. As one of the department's Organizational Communication Concentration professors, Dr. Aust teaches Organizational Communication Assessment, Leadership Communication, Training and Development, and Communication Research Methods.

Dr. Aust's research focuses on leadership communication in different contexts (i.e., organizational, group, interpersonal). He specifically examines emerging leadership perspectives, messages associated with productivity and task quality, and leader performance. As he puts it, “Leadership is everyone's responsibility; Communication education clarifies how leadership is successfully implemented.” He has authored and co-authored book chapters and articles published in such journals as Communication Studies, Basic Communication Course Annual, and Communication Teacher .

Dr. Aust also serves as the Department of Communication's Internship Director. The department's internship program enrolls 120 students a year and maintains a database of over 350 pre-approved internships in the Atlanta area and across the country. In addition, Dr. Aust regularly serves as a communication consultant for profit and non-profit Atlanta-based organizations. He has worked with over 20 companies in the last two years.
