Jan Phillips has taught at Kennesaw State University for approximately 10 years. She has taught the following courses: Introduction to Human Communication, Introduction to Mass Communication, Public Speaking, and Writing for Public Communication.

She has also taught courses at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Shorter College. She had a previous career as a professional writer/journalist and utilizes her professional experience in the classroom. She is currently writing course materials for Human Communication course. The materials will be published Fall 2007.

Jan Phillips lives with her husband Joseph Phillips in Kennesaw, Georgia . They are both active members at Shiloh Hills Baptist Church , Kennesaw, Georgia .
