Q. How many PLUs do I need?
A. In the State of Georgia, teachers are required to complete 10 PLUs every 5 years in order to retain their teaching certificates. If you are obtaining an alternative certification, please check with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GAPSC) to find out what your PLU requirements may be.
Q. Do I need to fill out any paperwork before I come to class?
A. If you are currently teaching, you must complete the Prior Approval form before you begin your course. It is the responsibility of the student to maintain a record of prior approval for a course. Please print out the form, have your supervisor sign it, and keep it for your records.
Q. What do I do if I am not currently teaching or do not yet have my certificate?
A. If you are not presently employed as a teacher or do not yet have your teaching certificate, you do not need to complete the prior approval form. You must, however, keep your PLU course completion form. When you are ready to renew your teaching certificate, attach your PLU course completion forms to your renewal application.
Q. How do I get my PLU completion form?
A. Students taking an online course must fill out an electronic affidavit prior to receiving their completion form. To speed up the process, make sure that you fill out the notification form once you have registered for your course. Please contact the online program coordinator at 770-499-3355 or email@example.com with any questions about this process.
For classroom courses, you should receive your PLU completion form from your instructor.
Q. Is there anything special I should know about taking an online course for PLUs?
A. Please take note of the following:
- Please fill out the notification form prior to the start of your online course to let the online coordinator know which courses you are taking. Please fill out a seperate for form each month in which you are taking courses.
- You must make an 80 or higher on your final exam to obtain PLU credit. You may only take the final exam once.
- You must also fill out an electronic affidavit upon completion of your online course. If you have forgotten to fill out the notification form, please do so upon completion of your course so that you may fill out the affidavit. You will not receive your PLU course completion form until we have received your electronic affidavit.
