Trip to Tuscany and UmbriaNovember 5-13, 2008 $2849 (Single supplemental fee of $450) Make a deposit of $400 to reserve your seat today (non-refundable after June 24, 2008). Balance due June 30, 2008. Day 1 - Atlanta - Intermediate City Evening departure from the Atlanta Airport on our transatlantic flight to Italy (via an intermediate city) with full meal and beverage service, as well as stereo headsets, while aloft. Day 2 - Florence - Montecatini Benvenuti in Italia! Arrive in Pisa or Florence (depending on air carrier) where we will be met by our tour host. After boarding our private motorcoach, we will transfer to Montecatini for check-in at the hotel Columbia (or similar). The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure to acquaint ourselves with our surroundings prior to dinner this evening at our hotel. Overnight. (D) Day 3 - Lucca - Pisa After breakfast, we will take the half-hour ride to Lucca, home of the great composer, Giacomo Puccini, and one of the wealthiest towns in Tuscany. We’ll enjoy a nice tour and then have some leisure time in this graceful city. While being an enjoyable, tourist friendly city, Lucca is remarkably relaxing and quiet, due to an usually high number of residents who ride bicycles instead of driving cars. In the afternoon, we are off to Pisa, where we will explore the Square of Miracles with the famous leaning tower and view Pisa's Duomo, Baptistery, and Camposanto Monumente. Late afternoon return to our hotel with time to freshen-up and relax prior to dinner. Overnight. (BB, D) Day 4 - San Gimignano - Siena After breakfast, we will depart for the beautiful Medieval walled-city of San Gimignano for a guided tour. While in San Gimignano, we will also visit a local wine cellar for a wine tasting and snack. We will pause for lunch (on our own). This afternoon, we will continue on to Siena for a guide tour of the Piazza II Campo and the Duomo. Dinner and overnight at our hotel in Montecatini. (BB, D) Day 5 - Florence This morning, after breakfast, we will journey to the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance - Florence! We will be hosted on guided sightseeing tour of Piazza della Signoria, the Duomo and Battistero. Lunch is on our own. Our afternoon in Florence is free to explore on our own or do some shopping-and browsing. Return to Montecatini for dinner and overnight at our hotel. (BB, D) Day 6 - Montecatini - Arezzo - Cortona - Assisi Following, breakfast and hotel check-out, we will head off for Arezzo with visits to San Francesco (with its Piero della Francesca's frescos), San Domenico (famous for the Cimabue's Crucifix), Pieve di Santa Maria and the Piazza Grande. We will stop for lunch (on our own) along the way. The hill-town of Cortona is next on our agenda with its spectacular views of the Valdichiana and Lake Trasimeno to the south. A must see is the Piazz Signorelli, adjacent to the Palzzo del Commune, and which is named after Cortona’s favorite son - Luca Signorelli! Our last stop today is in Assisi for check-in at the Hotel Giotto (or similar) for dinner and overnight. (BB, D) Day 7 - Perugia - Assisi After breakfast, we will depart our hotel for a morning guided sightseeing tour of Perugia visiting Fontana Maggiore, Palazzo dei Priori, Collegio del Cambio and the Duomo. Stop for lunch (on our own). this afternoon will be spent in Assisi visitng the Basilica of St. Francis, Via San Francesco, Piazza Inferiore, Piazza del Comune and Santa Maria degli Angeli (with the Porziuncola). Return to our hotel for dinner and overnight. (BB, D) Day 8 - Todi - Spoleto Today, following breakfast at our hotel, we are off for a morning guided visit to Todi featuring Piazza and Palazzo del Popolo, San Fortunato Church and an olive oil production facility to see how it is made. In the afternoon, after lunch (on our own), we will enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of Spoleto visiting the Cathedral (Duomo), Towers Bridge and San Salvatore. Return to our hotel for dinner and overnight. (BB, D) Day 9 - Rome - Intermediate City - Atlanta After breakfast and hotel check-out, we will transfer to the airport in Rome to board our return flight to Atlanta (via an intermediate city) with full meal and beverage service, as well as stereo headsets, while aloft.
