ARRIVING IN ATLANTA
U.S. Immigration and Customs Forms
While you are on the plane, you will receive two forms. One of them is the Customs form. The other is called I-94. Complete all forms truthfully by marking “x” or “√” in the appropriate boxes on the form. Do not bring restricted items, such as meat, fish, or raw animal product; do not bring fruits, raw vegetables or live plants. If you bring food items, they must be dried and/or processed. If you decide to bring favorite foodstuff from your country, then you must check the appropriate box when you are completing the Customs form. Agriculture Section at the airport may then screen your bag.
If Atlanta Airport is Your First Port of Entry
Atlanta has a new international terminal, Concourse F. Please visit the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport website for additional information.
If Atlanta Airport is NOT Your First Port of Entry
This means you have entered the United States at another airport and then flew on a connecting flight to Atlanta. Upon arriving at that airport of first entry (e.g., New York, Washington, or Chicago), you will go through Immigration, pick up your checked-in luggage, and then go through customs. After these, find your connecting flight, check in, and board. Your flight to Atlanta will now a local flight.
Ground Transportation to KSU/Hotel
One-way transportation from the Atlanta Airport to Kennesaw-area hotels starts from $65 for a taxi and $45 for a shared-ride van. We recommend making taxi or shuttle reservations in advance. Please see the listing above for some local transportation providers.
PHONES
Receiving international calls in your hotel room is free. Making direct international calls from your hotel room can be expensive. Instead, you can use international calling cards when making such calls. These cards are available locally and you will be able to purchase them upon your arrival. Follow the instructions on the cards to use them. For mobile phones, SIM cards are available with several network carriers, which will give you a local US phone number. However, you must first ensure that your handset is "international," meaning it is tri-band or quad-band and can work in the US. Most Blackberry phones have been used successfully with US SIM cards.
MONEY
Currency
The acceptable currency is US Dollar. Other major currencies (the Euro and UK Pound) may be changed at the airport to the US Dollar. Estimate carefully how much you would need for your out-of-pocket expenses. Note that there is a limit to the amount of money that visitors are allowed to bring into the country.
Credit and Debit Cards
Most major credit cards are accepted. Some credit card companies charge an additional fee for each transaction conducted overseas. You may want to notify your credit card company of where and when you will be traveling to avoid receiving a fraud alert on your account. Debit cards may also be used, but check with your bank to confirm their fees and to identify any compatibility issues with United States ATMs.
