Chinese Bridge Summer Camp for American High School Students
July 2013 (dates TBA)

Mission

    • To promote communication between the youth of China and the United States.
    • To enhance the understanding of Chinese language and culture.
    • To stimulate U.S. High school students’ interest in learning the Chinese language.

Itinerary

(2012 dates shown below)

    • July 14: Departure from the United States.
    • July 15:  Arrival in Beijing, China and the camp in a different province
    • July 16 - 24:  Camp activities (the province name TBA)
    • July 25: Back to Beijing
    • July 26-28: Closing ceremony and related activities in Beijing.
    • July 29: Departure from Beijing, China 

Camp Activities

    • Learning programs focusing on Chinese language and culture in classroom settings.
    • Sports and social activities.
    • Field trips to Chinese historical and cultural sites and locations of natural beauty.

Qualifications for Students

    • Currently enrolled in grade 9-12 at accredited public or private high school.
    • US citizens.
    • No Chinese learning background.
    • Excellent academic record.
    • Physically and emotionally capable of international travel.

Qualifications for Chaperones

    • K-12 teaching experiences.
    • Extensive student management experience.
    • Previous experience of living/traveling in China; knowledge of basic conditions in China.
    • Love for teaching; keen sense of responsibility.
    • Outstanding communications skills; ability to adapt to new environment and situations.
    • Physically and emotionally capable of international travel.

Costs

    • Participants (students and chaperones) are responsible for the cost of their own round-trip airfare, Chinese visas, and international travel insurance.
    • Hanban will cover room and board, transportation, activities, and sightseeing expenses.

Application & Deadline

(2013 dates TBA/ 2012 dates shown below)

    • Student applicants must submit their applications, personal application letters and letters of recommendation from schools and/or teachers to the Confucius Institute before deadline of April 15, 2012.
    • Chaperones: please complete the applications and submit the forms and your resume to Confucius Institute before deadline of April 15, 2012.
    • Due to limited enrollment, no late application will be accepted. $300 deposit will be needed when submitting the application.
    • Applicants will be notified of their status by May 15, 2012.

    • Registration.
    • Program orientation.
    • Visa application.
    • Group international airline ticket reservations to insure seating and lowest possible fare.
