Buying vs Copy/Print

When you buy a networked printer for your department you incur the following expenses:

  1. The purchase price of the printer
  2. The cost of the paper
  3. The cost of the toner cartridges or ink cartridges
  4. The maintenance contract

Your cost per copy will depend on the volume you print. Some of these costs are per page while others are spread across your volume. For large volumes items 2&3 become dominant. If your volumes are not very high the purchase price of the printer will be more of a factor.

When you use the Copy/Print service you pay a flat fee per copy, nothing more. There is no KSU investment for copy/print functionality. Whether you shift your department print traffic to an existing Copy/Print device or we place a new MFD in your area, there is no investment required by your department or KSU. The Copy/Print cost covers all four items noted above plus the administration software & network that enables KSU to track costs at the department and individual level.

The fees are always $0.05 per B&W page and $0.30 per color page. A page is one side of a sheet of paper so two sided printing is the same as printing two separate pages.

You can obtain the cost estimates for the four categories listed above and do your own cost per page comparison or you can contact the Copy/Print manager to assist you in your analysis by clicking the link at the bottom of the page.

For questions on Copy/Print functions or to obtain a new Copier/Printer for you area, contact the KSU Copy/Print Manager.
