EDUC 2201 "Teaching and Schools in a Changing Society"

EDUC 2201 requires ten weeks of field experience, one day per week, three hours at a time. This major responsibility includes:

  • identifying schools for placements
  • creating and updating student information packets that are distributed on the first day of classes
  • conducting orientation sessions with all the EDUC 2201 course sections
  • collecting and processing forms for Field Experience Placement Requests
  • Liability Insurance Verification
  • Criminal History Investigation Consent Forms, and Affirmations of Criminal History
  • placing students in the schools
  • coordinating on-site orientation sessions with administrators, liaisons, and students
  • creating databases for student placement

Regarding Criminal History Investigations, the Center coordinates meetings and hearings of the Professional Standards Committee as needed. In addition, a Center representative attends the orientation sessions in the field placement sites if the liaison is not available. Currently, we are working toward the creation of a student database that will track the field placement of every student from EDUC 2201 through graduation, which will expedite placements and distribution, and will house information on school diversity levels and other data needed for NCATE. To serve our students, we are working toward meeting the program area needs and placement requests of our students, giving them choices of geographic zones and honoring program area requests. To expedite the placement process, we hope to establish collaborative relationships with clusters of schools on an ongoing basis.
