The old
school will be torn down and replaced with a new educational facility,
which will be a "foot-print" of the original Summer Hill High
School building. Plans for the 17-acre site (The Summer Hill Educational
and Recreational Complex) include: a ten thousand (10,000) square foot
educational building which will include classrooms, a nostalgia room,
a library, a computer lab, two offices, one security office, and more;
renovation of the ball field. The new ball field, which has been lying
dormant for many years, will add a much needed recreational area to
the community; nature walks will run through the wooded areas; we will
construct a soccer field, public picnic areas, pavilions; the "lower"
gym will be used for city recreational activities during the basketball
season as it has always been; the swimming pool area will be renovated
and contain a large pool for swimmers and a smaller wading pool for
toddlers; and there will be a large paved parking area. The whole project
will be a partnership with the City of Cartersville, Bartow County,
and Cartersville Recreation Department.
The educational
facility will be the new site of the After-School Tutorial Program classes
of the Authority and the community wide GED classes. As the project
continues to grow and expand, other groups are expected to take advantage
of the facility.
Kennesaw
State University will be involved in the project through service-learning
and other avenues of service.
