Mission Statement

The Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education, as a part of the Bagwell College of Education and the Professional Teacher Education Unit of Kennesaw State University, is committed to excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship. The department, through collaboration with university colleagues, local school districts, community agencies and partners, and accrediting agencies strives for the preparation of professionals (undergraduate and graduate) to work with children and youth in the 21st century. The primary mission of the department is to prepare educators to facilitate learning of multiple content using pedagogies developmentally appropriate for early childhood (pre-kindergarten through grade five) general education and life-span special education (mild disabilities). Through a collaborative integrative approach, the department prepares individuals to function professionally in multiple settings in general education (P-5) and life-span special education within the context of a multicultural, pluralistic, and technological society. The department stands as a steeple of excellence to serve the university, community, and Northwest Georgia through P-16 community service and scholarship.
