MASTER OF ARTS IN
FOREIGN LANGUAGES
SPANISH OR CHINESE
Admissions Requirements:


  • Obtain and submit official transcripts from EACH college attended, including those institutions where degrees were NOT earned. Official transcripts are those in a university sealed envelope.Your transcripts should reflect at least a Bachelor's degree (with a 2.75 GPA, on a 4.0 scale in all language courses)

    AND
    must include a minimum of 21 undergraduate upper level (3000 or 4000 level)
    semester hours OR
    the equivalent in Spanish or Chinese, respectively,
    in the following areas: Language, Linguistics, Culture, and Literature

    Note: You may be able to complete some of the above mentioned undergraduate course
    work in Chinese or Spanish as a Non-degree/MAT interest student by submitting the
    following information on Non-Degree Admission Requirments.
    Please check deadline dates!




  • Obtain and submit passing scores on GACE (Basic Skills Assessment) (Reading, Writing, and Mathematics) by logging onto www.gace.nesinc.com/GA_testframeworks.asp

    Test results should be sent directly to KSU (School Code 420).  Additionally, please send a copy of your score report in your packet.
    Exams: Students may exempt GACE Basic Skills Testing if they meet any of the following minimum scores:
    1. ACT: at least 43 (English & Math)
    2. GRE: at least 1030 (Verbal & Quantitative)
    3. SAT: at least 1000 (Verbal & Quantitative)

    Check with the Certification Officer at 770-423-6043 for exemption scores
    if you took the SAT prior to 1995 or ACT prior to 1989.




  • Obtain and submit an official paper copy OR electronic copy of your
    OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview administered by ACTFL) by logging onto www.languagetesting.com

    Minimum scores MUST be:
    For Spanish Applicants : “Advanced Low”
    For Chinese Applicants: “Intermediate High”



  • For Spanish Applicants only: Obtain and submit official passing scores on
    GACE Content Assessment Exam in Spanishhttp://www.gace.nesinc.com

    For Chinese Applicants only: Obtain and submit official passing
    WPT (Writing Proficiency Test administered by ACTFL) - www.languagetesting.com
    with minimum scores of “Intermediate High”
    (Which, together with the OPI, will satisfy the Georgia Content Assessment Exam requirement for certification)



  • Obtain and submit a paper copy of your GRE (General) or MAT score.
    Make sure your official results are sent to KSU upon completion
    (School Code: 5359). Although there is not a minimum score, your GRE or MAT scores will be considered in the competitive review process.

  • Obtain and submit TWO Letters of Recommendation from TWO sources capable of assessing interpersonal skills applicable to teaching and/or potential for graduate work. These recommendations should be on school or business letterhead.



  • Obtain and submit a 1-2 Page Professional Statement in support of the application explaining what has led to your decision to become an educator.


  • Obtain and submit a Criminal Background Check Form. Each applicant must submit a signed Criminal History Consent Form so that a background check can be conducted by Kennesaw State University (downloadable form provided above).
