Hope Scholarships for Teacher Education

HOPE scholarships are awarded to qualified applicants on a first come, first served basis until funds are no longer available. Applications are available for annual application/renewal beginning June 1 and funds are available no earlier than July 1. Below are the requirements and processes to apply for both the Promise Teacher Scholarships (for undergraduate students) and the Hope Teacher Scholarships (for graduate students)

 

I. Hope Teacher Scholarship (Graduates)

The requirements for the Hope Teacher Scholarship are:

Be FULLY admitted to one of KSU's Masters programs in one of the following areas:

  • Special Education-Individualized General Curriculum
  • Adolescent Education with a concentration in Math with a certificate in Middle Grades Math or Secondary Math
  • Adolescent Education with a concentration in Science with a certificate in Middle Grades Science or Secondary Science
  • Adolescent Education with a concentration in English with a certificate in Secondary English
The Hope Teacher Scholarship will pay $125 per semester hour that the student is registered for.

Students receiving the Hope Teacher Scholarship will be expected to teach, in their degree field, one year for every $2,500 they have been awarded.

II. Promise Teacher Scholarship (Undergraduates)
Service-cancelable Loan

In order to qualify for the Hope Promise Scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

1. At least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in ALL coursework you have attempted. This includes all colleges or universities that you have attended, not just Kennesaw State University.

2. Be considered at least a Junior by your current institution. At KSU a total of 60 semester hours overall is needed in order to be classified as a junior.

3. Be admitted into the Teacher Education Program.

4. Not be in default on a previous Georgia or Federal loan and/or not owe a refund on a grant or scholarship.

5. Agree to obtain your Georgia Teaching Certificate and teach in your degree field.

Students that qualify will receive $1,500.00 per semester (for 6 or more hours) for a maximum of $3,000.00 a year and a maximum of 2 years. You can receive Hope Promise in addition to regular Hope or other financial aid.

Students will be expected to teach in a Georgia Public School one year for every $1,500.00 that they were awarded. Failure to do so will result in repayment with interest.
