UNDERGRADUATE TEACHER EDUCATION ADMISSION APPLICATION

TEACHER EDUCATION ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: Admission to teacher education is a separate process from admission to Kennesaw State University. It may only take place after a student has been fully accepted to Kennesaw State University along with a completed transcript evaluation by the Office of the Registrar.

For additional information see:
KSU Undergraduate Admissions
Teacher Education Admission Application

In order to meet the minimum requirements for admission to any teacher education program, applicants must address the following*:

  • The student should submit a Teacher Education Admission Application that must be signed by a Kennesaw State University advisor.
    Download the Application Form (PDF)

  • APPLICATION FEE: Applications will NOT be accepted without proof of fee payment. Payments must be paid at the KSU Bursar's Office in the Carmichael Student Center (room 233) using cash, check or money order (payable to KSU). A copy of the Bursar's Office receipt must accompany the application.

  • Each applicant must submit a signed Criminal History Consent Form so that a background check can be conducted by Kennesaw State University. Applications cannot be reviewed until criminal history clearance has been obtained.

  • An applicant must have at least 45 semester hours of accredited college coursework. Transfer credits and KSU credits will be considered.
  • College transfer credits and grades will be considered in the teacher education admission process. A student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 for all attempted hours in the system core curriculum and lower division courses as required for teacher preparation programs at the time of admission consideration. This GPA cannot be calculated until transcripts have been fully evaluated by the Office of the Registrar. Students should see their advisor for questions concerning the "Education Transfer GPA."
  • Each student must also have an adjusted or cumulative GPA of 2.75 for all completed coursework at Kennesaw State University at the time of admission consideration. The KSU adjusted or cumulative GPA must be maintained at 2.75 or higher.
  • English 1101 and English 1102 must be included on the KSU academic history or transfer evaluation with a grade of C or higher.
  • The student must have passed or satisfied the Regents' Examination. It must be indicated in the student's KSU academic history that this requirement has been satisfied. Students transferring from USG system schools must have a completed transcript evaluation indicating that the Regents' Examination requirement has been satisfied. Students who have earned a four-year degree from an accredited institution will be considered as having satisfied this requirement, but it must be noted in student records.
  • Each student must show proof of passing GACE basic skills assessment or proof of exemption status. It is the student's responsibility to provide documentation of passing or exemption scores to the PTEU Certification Officer in KH 3018.

Please click here for information on the transition from Praxis I testing to GACE Basic Skills Assessment.
  • Students must have EDUC 2110** or EDUC 2201**on their KSU academic history or included on their completed transcript evaluation by the Office of the Registrar. A grade of C or better must be earned. In addition to the preceding, the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood requires that all additional coursework completed in Lower Division Major and Teaching Field at the time of application for admission must have C's or higher.
  • The applicant must have one positive recommendation. For those students taking EDUC 2110 (or who previously completed EDUC 2201) at Kennesaw State University, the PTEU Admissions Coordinator will forward the recommendation form to the instructor/professor. If a student transfers the required course for admission to teacher education from a previous institution, it will be necessary for the student to obtain a supplemental recommendation for EDUC 2110 (or EDUC 2201).

Students should obtain a copy of the supplemental recommendation form to give to a KSU instructor/professor or to one from their previous institution. It is strongly encouraged that the supplemental recommendation be completed by an instructor/professor teaching education or program-content courses.

  • Each applicant must demonstrate potential for success in the program.
  • All potential candidates must be approved for admission to teacher education by the Admission and Academic Standing Committee of the applicant's program area.
  • Note: Some degree programs in teacher education have additional admissions requirements. Please consult those departments and program coordinators.

*Actual admission criteria are determined by matriculation date.

**Or approved Teacher Cadet or Teacher Apprenticeship Program (see Ms. Janice Traylor, Center for Education Placements and Partnerships, Bagwell College of Education at 770-423-6734).
