KSU Protected Category Definition
Age Age (40 years or older)
Color Skin color
Disability Perceived or known physical or mental disability; accommodations for disability
Sex Sex discrimination (male or female), pregnancy, child bearing/rearing, wages based on gender or status as a parent. Sexual harassment
National origin National place of birth or parentage
Race Examples: African-American, Bi-racial or multicultural, Mexican-American, Caucasian, Hispanic, etc.
Religion Belief, practice, and/or celebration of one’s spiritual faith; accommodations for religious holidays, practice, etc.
Retaliation Adverse action taken against a person (employee, student, or other party) for filing, serving as a witness or in any manner participating in any EEO complaint, inquiry or investigation
Sexual orientation/LGBTQ Sexual orientation or perceived sexual orientation for member(s) of the same or opposite gender. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or Questioning
Veteran status Status as a Vietnam or a Vietnam Era Veteran
   
Employment decisions cannot be based on any of the above named protected categories. No person will be penalized for good faith utilization of channels available for resolving concerns dealing with prohibited bias.
