CHEMATIX™ at Kennesaw State University
Policy - Chemical Inventories at (KSU) Kennesaw State University
It is the responsibility of the Kennesaw State University to provide employees with a safe and healthy work environment and to comply with all applicable State and Federal regulations. In order to comply with the Georgia Public Employees Hazardous Chemical Protection and Right to Know Rules, (KSU) selected CHEMATIX™ as its chemical management system to safely and easily procure, manage and inventory chemicals.
Inventory Reconciliation Requirement
Georgia law requires chemical inventories to be physically reconciled twice each year and submitted in June and December. The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia therefore requires Kennesaw State University to submit a consolidated chemical inventory in June and December of each year. CHEMATIX™ is the tool (KSU) uses to consolidate and submit those inventories. CHEMATIX™ streamlines the reconciliation process through the use of handheld barcode scanners and barcode labels attached to each chemical container. Additional guidance on the inventory reconciliation process is listed.
Annual Inventory Procedures
Although inventories in CHEMATIX™ should be up-to-date at all times, it will still be necessary to reconcile inventories within six months of June 1 and December 1 because of the Right To Know law. However, since CHEMATIX™ allows the use of a bar code scanner, it will take less time than in the past.
Items that do not have to be tracked in CHEMATIX™ are: Lab supplies, mixtures made up from chemicals already in the lab inventory (especially working solutions for work in process) and Petri dishes of agar awaiting use.

Training Version of Chematix
Many people have learned how to use simply practicing in the Test/Training version of CHEMATIX™ at http://chematix-test.kennesaw.edu/ and by using the HELP screens. The Test/Training version is a risk-free way to learn CHEMATIX™ because it does not impact your inventory or other data in the production version of CHEMATIX™.
