STATE OBJECTIVES
The
following are state curriculum objectives addressed in the unit lesson on
surface area.
Standard: Uses specific problem-solving strategies
such as guess and check; drawing a diagram or other representations of the
problem; using tables, charts or graphs; working backwards; using problem
reduction (converting to a related problem that is easier to solve); breaking
the problem into manageable pieces and solving the separate parts
individually; and uses estimation and approximation when appropriate.
Standard: Recognizes and applies the problem-solving process:
-Identifies and formulates a
problem based on a practical or laboratory situations
-Reaches a valid and
supportable conclusion
-Judges the reasonableness of a
proposed solution
Standard: Applies the problem solving process to a wide variety
of problems taken from the various technology/career preparatory areas
Standard: Using a calculator, represents whole numbers, fractions,
decimals, percents, and mixed numbers taken from practical data, and
converts between the various representations
Standard: Estimates answers by various techniques and compares
calculator results with estimates to determine reasonableness
Standard: Recognizes appropriate practical situations in which
to use and to expect results with exact and approximate numbers
Standard: Applies techniques of rounding
Standard: Measures concrete objects using appropriate tools
involving both metric and customary units to find length, weight, area,
and volume
Standard: Solves applied problems involving measurements
Standard: Identifies items from real life that are commonly
measured in metric, customary, or both systems of units, and recognizes
the appropriately sized units to use.
Standard : Identifies lines, angles, circles, polygons, cylinders,
cones, rectangular solids, and spheres in everyday objects
Standard: Calculates perimeter and area of plane figures;
finds appropriate measures of objects and their models prior to such
calculations for basic polygons and circles
Standard: Calculates volume; lateral and surface area for
cylinders, rectangular solids, cones, and spheres; and finds appropriate
measures of objects and their models prior to such calculations
