Master of Arts in Teaching Program
(Print Version)
In summer 2006, KSU began a new graduate program: the Master of Arts in Teaching. In this intensive 15-month program, students earn an MAT degree and a teaching certificate in Secondary (grades 6-12) English.
Admission to the program requires a bachelor's degree in English or a closely related field. Applicants with bachelor's degrees in non-English-related fields must show evidence of specific English and literature coursework (see below). Prospective students may need to complete specific prerequisite courses before applying to the program.

Prospective students needing to complete additional undergraduate courses can apply for undergraduate admission in the semester(s) before applying for the program.
Upon full admission, the MAT program can be completed in 15 months. MAT candidates will move through the program beginning with a summer session and finishing at the end of the following summer semester. While some classes are offered in the evenings, intensive and extensive field experiences in schools require full course loads at KSU each semester. Hope Promise funds may be available to MAT students once they are fully accepted to the program.
Find out more about MAT admission requirements.
Please contact English education graduate coordinator Dr. Darren Crovitz with any additional questions you may have about the program.
