Position Title:
Assistant Professor - Mathematics Education
Position  Qualifications/ Responsibilities:

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position for Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education beginning August 2008.  A growing and progressive university in the Georgia University System, Kennesaw State is located on an attractive campus in suburban NW metropolitan Atlanta, enrolls 20,000 baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral students and is engaged in an impressive array of applied research and professional service initiatives.

As one of the larger departments at KSU, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 46 full-time faculty, over 25 part-time instructors, and a secretarial staff who serve over 300 Mathematics and Mathematics Education majors.  In addition, the department serves the Early Childhood Education majors through 5 specifically designed mathematics content courses. The department currently offers B.S. degrees in Mathematics and Mathematics Education and an M.S. degree in Applied Statistics.  The department also offers, in conjunction with the College of Education, an MAT degree in secondary mathematics, an MEd in Adolescent Education with an emphasis in mathematics, and an EdD in Leadership for Learning with an emphasis in Mathematics Education. 

An earned doctorate in Mathematics Education, or in a related field with an emphasis on K-12 curriculum and instruction, a strong academic preparation in mathematics (at least 6 mathematics courses at graduate level), and evidence of (or potential for) applied/school-focused scholarship are required.  Experiences in designing and delivering online mathematics/mathematics education courses as well as secondary school (6-12) teaching experiences are preferred.  College level teaching experiences, field supervision, and knowledge of technology applications in mathematics classrooms are desired.  Responsibilities may include designing and delivering online mathematics/mathematics education courses, teaching of mathematics content and pedagogy courses for prospective secondary school teachers, supervising student teachers, scholarship, advisement of mathematics education majors and graduate students, and other department, college, and/or university services.
