Reporting to the Dean of the Bagwell College of Education, the Interim Coordinator of Distance Education works with the college and other units to develop and coordinate a long-range strategic plan for distance learning that includes the planning and delivery of academic courses and programs using online distance learning technologies. The individual collaborates with CETL (Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning), thte Academic Affairs Online/Distance Learning Director, colleagues in other KSU colleges, and course authors (BCOE faculty) to develop courses that are learning-centered and interactive. The position provides the faculty with group and one-on-one instructional design assistance, including integrating new and emerging technologies, applying pedagogical principles and assessment practices, and exploring greater opportunities and options for course content and delivery. The person works with various technology units on campus including Multimedia Development Group, Information Technology Services, and Online Services, and the person is an advocate for online/distance learning to a variety of internal and external groups. Additionally, this person serves as a webmaster for the college. Collaborating with the Website Committee, departments, and centers, the person will revise the college websites. This is a nine-month position. Required qualifications: 1) an advanced degree in Education or a related field; 2) two years experience in the design and management of online programs; 3) experience in teaching and developing online courses in higher education; 4) two years experience in the design of websites, 5) ability to collaborate with Department Heads, Program Coordinators, and faculty to organize a diverse set of existing online courses, develop fully online degree programs, and produce online and hybird courses (blended environment) and supplemental materials in support of an exciting and effective teaching and learning environment; 6) strong communication skills, both oral and written; and 7) ability to work with diverse populations. Desired qualifications: 1) knowledge of best practices in distance education, and the ability to ensure that these best practices are reflected in current courses and programs; 2) expertise in pedagogy and effective learning techniques, online education, instructional technologies, course design and evalution; and 3) skill as a proactive advocate and presenter on the appropriate use of existing, new and emerging technologies for learning and teaching. Anticipated start date: September 15, 2009 Kennesaw State University (KSU), the third-largest university in the University System of Georgia, is a doctoral granting institution. The Bagwell College of Education (BCOE) is one of the largest and strongest teacher preparation units in the University System of Georgia offering bachelor’s, master’s, educational specialist, and doctor of education degree programs. It is also one of Georgia’s largest leadership preparation programs. All educator preparation programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and approved by Georgia’s Professional Standards Commission (PSC). As a member of the Renaissance Group, BCOE continues its advancement toward meeting the challenges of national and state reforms for teacher education as well as program expansion. The college houses an Educational Technology Center that provides professional learning, consulting, and service for Georgia educators in 11 school systems within metro Atlanta and North Georgia. KSU’s conceptual framework for educator preparation is the Collaborative Development of Expertise in Teaching, Learning, and Leadership. This collaboration, including service and support units, is carried out both through the college’s four academic departments (Educational Leadership, Elementary and Early Childhood Education, Inclusive Education, and Secondary and Middle Grades Education) and in conjunction with other members of KSU’s Professional Teacher Education Unit (PTEU). PTEU, the university’s umbrella organization for preparing educators, includes twelve departments from five colleges all of which collaborate on the design, delivery, approval, and accreditation of all educator preparation programs. The PTEU serves as a model of university-wide responsibility for teacher education; field-based collaboration with practicing professionals and partner schools; infusion of technology for enhanced teaching and learning; and best practices for the inclusion of English learners and students with disabilities |
