A growing and progressive university in Georgia's public system of higher education invites applications for a nine-month,
tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Biology in the Department of Biology & Physics beginning August 2010. Located on an attractive campus in suburban NW metropolitan Atlanta, Kennesaw State University enrolls approximately 22,500 baccalaureate, master's and doctoral students and is engaged in an impressive array of research and professional service initiatives. The department employs 41 full-time faculty, 10 part-time instructors, and an administrative staff that serve approximately 1200 majors. We currently offer B.S. degrees in Biology, Biotechnology and Biology Education, an MAT in Biology, an MAT in Physics, as well as having responsibility for delivering physics and non-majors interdisciplinary science courses. The department provides extensive internship and research opportunities for students in its degree programs.
The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in Biology or a closely related field with interest and expertise in the area of evolutionarily-based Behavioral Biology/Ethology. Teaching responsibilities will support both the Biology and Biotechnology programs and may include introductory biology, Behavioral Biology, additional appropriate upper level courses in the applicant’s area of expertise, and an interdisciplinary science sequence for non-science majors (environmental science theme). Preference may be given to applicants with prior teaching experience. The successful applicant will have an interest in developing a collaborative research program with other faculty in the department and actively involving undergraduates in their research. They will be expected to engage in and maintain a significant level of scholarship. Applicants should have demonstrated the potential for developing an externally funded research program. Therefore, preference will be given to candidates with postdoctoral experience. Other duties will
include participation in departmental, university, and professional service including the development of a graduate program. |
