Executive Director, Institute for Global Initiatives

Position Qualifications – Responsibilities:

Kennesaw State University invites nominations and applications for the Executive Director of the Institute for Global Initiatives (IGI).

KSU is a recipient of the 2011 Simon Award for comprehensive campus internationalization and has been recognized by the Institute for International Education and the U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy for the excellence of its international programs.  Having gained increasing recognition as a national and global leader in international education, KSU seeks to perfect and expand its role as a leader in international education.

The Executive Director of the IGI serves as a catalytic and visionary leader, manager and a major resource for comprehensive internationalization of the university.  The Institute serves and works closely with all of the university’s constituent colleges and a variety of campus units.  IGI is currently comprised of the following operating units:  Education Abroad Office, Center for Latin American and Iberian Studies, Center for African and African Diaspora Studies, Global Engagement Programs, and Global Admissions.   The future growth of the institute may include centers and programs focusing on South Asia; Japan; the Arab world; Intercultural Communication Competency; Racial, Ethnic and Religious Dialogue; and Global Research & Teaching Programs.  The Executive Director will be responsible for the strategic leadership and overall management of the Institute including setting strategic goals, management of personnel, budget, internal and external relationship building and marketing, IT, development, fundraising & grant-writing, coordination of unit activities, hosting of international guests, engagement with local, state, national and international communities, policies & reports related to global engagement and fostering teamwork and collaboration.  The Executive Director is a 12-month academic administrative position and will report to the Senior Vice Provost in pursuing the university’s strategic mission and goals.

The Executive Director will:

  • Provide strategic leadership for IGI; develop new and maintain existing global strategic partnerships;
  • Ensure that all units are efficiently achieving their strategic goals;
  • Be a source of guidance, counsel & leadership to IGI directors and their staff;
  • Foster productive communication within and between IGI and other university units;
  • Create, maintain and strengthen university partnerships;
  • Initiate, coordinate and support project and programs involving faculty, students, and staff in the context of global engagement;
  • Assist in the development and growth of current and future units within the Institute;
  • Maintain excellent communications with the office of the provost, and other colleges and with partner within and outside of the university.
Required Education – Experience – Skills (Minimum Qualifications):

Qualifications for the position include:

  • Solid knowledge of all aspects of international education;
  • Substantial international experience and demonstrably successful administrative experience;
  • Strong academic background with a record of scholarship and an intimate familiarity with university operations; terminal degree preferred;
  • Accomplishments and achievements that qualify for a tenure-track or non-tenure-track faculty position;
  • Experience in working with a variety of educational institutions, government agencies and corporations in the U.S. and abroad;
  • Manifest personal qualities: diplomacy & tact, energy, solid ethical foundation & bearing, flexibility, and strong listening & interpersonal skills;
  • Functional skills: ability to prioritize and organize, higher effective interpersonal, communication, and team building skills;
  • Specialized skills: leadership, strategic planning, cross-cultural, negotiation, budget management, advocacy, and policy & project management.
