Position Title

Lecturer of Instructional Technology

Position Description and Responsibilities:    

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Instructional Technology, this faculty member of Instructional Technology will coordinate and teach our undergraduate courses. Additionally, this faculty member may teach in the graduate programs described above. The focus of these programs is to equip aspiring and practicing educators to improve student learning through the effective uses of technology in PreK-12 settings. The lecturer will be expected to teach courses in face-to-face, off-site, and online learning environments.  Other duties associated with this position include advising M.Ed students, guiding M.Ed. capstone projects, and serving on committees. All courses are aligned to the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers, Administrators, and Coaches (NETS-T, NETS-A, NETS-C). This faculty member will also engage in service commensurate with rank.  This is a nine-month, non-tenure track lecturer position.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in coordinating projects, programs, or initiatives.
  • Experience teaching in higher education.
  • Skill in designing and delivering online courses. 
  • Experience with assistive technologies.
Required Education – Experience – Skills (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Earned educational specialist or doctoral degree in Instructional Technology or in a closely-related field.
  • Evidence of the ability to teach instructional technology to aspiring or practicing educators.
  • Evidence of the ability to support and integrate digital age learning through technology and innovative practice in PreK-12 settings.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with colleagues in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • Skills necessary to collaborate with teachers, school administrators, and students in local school districts.
  • Minimum two years teaching experience and/or technology coordination in PreK-12 schools.
  • Commitment to working in an environment that fosters diversity.

Departmental/College Overview:

The Bagwell College of Education (BCOE) is one of the largest and strongest teacher preparation units in the University System of Georgia offering bachelor’s, master’s, educational specialist, and doctor of education degree programs. All educator preparation programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and approved by Georgia’s Professional Standards Commission (PSC). As a member of the Renaissance Group, BCOE continues its advancement toward meeting the challenges of national and state reforms for teacher education as well as program expansion.  The college received an $8.9 million Teacher Quality Partnership grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The BCOE houses the iTeach Center that provides professional learning, consulting, and service for Georgia educators in 11 school systems within metro Atlanta and North Georgia.  Recently, the BCOE launched the Center for Literacy and Learning, a facility where P-12 striving readers are assessed and tutored by graduate students.  In collaboration with the College of Science and Mathematics, the Bagwell College of Education established the Advancing the Teaching of Mathematics and Science (ATOMS) Center.

KSU’s conceptual framework for educator preparation is the Collaborative Development of Expertise in Teaching, Learning, and Leadership. This collaboration, including service and support units, is carried out both through the college’s five academic departments (Educational Leadership, Elementary and Early Childhood Education, Inclusive Education, Instructional Technology, and Secondary and Middle Grades Education) and in conjunction with other members of KSU’s Professional Teacher Education Unit (PTEU). PTEU, the university’s umbrella organization for preparing educators, includes fourteen departments from five colleges all of which collaborate on the design, delivery, approval, and accreditation of all educator preparation programs. The PTEU serves as a model of university-wide responsibility for teacher education; field-based collaboration with practicing professionals and partner schools; infusion of technology for enhanced teaching and learning; and best practices for the inclusion of English learners and students with disabilities.

The Instructional Technology Department in the Bagwell College of Education offers master’s, educational specialist, and doctoral degrees in Instructional Technology. The Department provides classes for a strand in the master’s degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Technology Leadership and teaches an undergraduate technology course in the college’s new Urban Education Option. Additionally, the Department teaches an undergraduate technology course required of Elementary and Early Childhood candidates. In Spring 2012, the Department launched a fully online master’s degree in Instructional Technology. In Summer 2013, the Department will launch a fully online educational specialist’s degree in Instructional Technology and an Online Teaching Endorsement pending approval from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). The online teaching endorsement prepares P-12 teachers to teach in online and blended learning environments. The Department also serves as the home of the iTEACH Center, a service center providing technology-related professional learning to in-service teachers in the metropolitan Atlanta area.
