Position Title

Chair, Department of Health Promotion and Physical Education (Associate Professor or Professor)

Position Qualifications – Responsibilities:

The position is a twelve-month, tenure track, administrative faculty position.  Candidates must meet qualifications for appointment as an associate or full professor.  Responsibilities include management skills such as faculty evaluation, personnel evaluation, instructional leadership, development of budgets, management of budgets, obtaining external funding, and building community collaborations.  The candidate will promote faculty scholarship, teaching and service activities.

Required Education – Experience – Skills (Minimum Qualifications):

The ideal candidate will have an earned doctorate in health promotion, physical education or a related field that would complement the programs in the department. 

Prior administrative leadership in higher education is expected including budgetary development/management and achieving and maintaining program accreditation.  A record of scholarship, a strong teaching background, and a history of success at seeking and obtaining extramural funding is expected.  Prior experience with academic program planning and development and the ability to work with community groups are also expected.  Must be a strategic visionary with empowering, democratic team building and interpersonal skills.  Must be able to assist faculty and staff.

Departmental/College Overview:
The Department of Health Promotion and Physical Education offers an undergraduate degree in Health and Physical Education (P 12 Teacher Education) and a minor in Coaching.  The Department supports the University with a required general education core course and provides an array of physical activity classes.  Also, the Department is developing a new program with an emphasis in Health Promotion. The expanding Department of 12 faculty is located in the Convocation Center and shares additional laboratory and classroom space in the new 200,000 square foot, state-of-the-art Health Sciences building.
