Position Title:

Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education (Secondary Education)

Position Qualifications – Responsibilities:

Nine-month, tenure-track position for Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education is available beginning August, 2013. Primary teaching responsibility will be mathematics content courses for prospective secondary (6-12) teachers. Engagement in scholarship and department, college, and/or university service will be expected.  Other responsibilities may include teaching of mathematics and mathematics education courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels, supervising field experiences, and academic advising. 

The ideal candidate will have research interest in Statistics Education, Psychology of Mathematics Education, Teaching and Learning, or Secondary Teacher Education. Experience working with prospective and/or practicing secondary school teachers is desirable. At least 3 years of 6-12 teaching experience is also desirable.

Required Education – Experience – Skills (Minimum Qualifications):

An earned doctorate in mathematics education, or a related field with appropriate experience; a minimum of 18 semester hours of graduate level mathematics; and a record of, or potential for, a program of scholarly activities are required.

Departmental/College Overview: As one of the larger departments at KSU, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics currently has 13 tenure-track faculty members in Mathematics Education. The department serves over 400 Mathematics and Mathematics Education majors.  The department currently offers B.S. degrees in Mathematics and Mathematics Education and a M.S. degree in Applied Statistics. The department also offers, in conjunction with the College of Education, a M.A.T. degree in Secondary Mathematics and a M. Ed. /Ed.S. degree in Middle Grades/Secondary Education with a concentration in mathematics.
