About the Awards | Nominate a Business | Complete Rules | Past Winner

Family businesses play a crucial role in Georgia's economy and society, a role too frequently overlooked as the public's eye is directed to public corporations. To emphasize the tremendous and positive contributions provided by family firms, large and small, the Cox Family Enterprise Center at Kennesaw State University initiated the Georgia Family Business of the Year Awards Program in 1991.

Winning businesses are chosen on the basis of their proven business success, positive family/business linkage, multi-generational family business involvement, contributions to industry and community, and innovative business practices and strategy.

Awards are given in four categories:

  • Small (fewer than 50 employees)
  • Medium (50-250 employees)
  • Large (more than 250 employees)
  • Cox Enterprises Century Award
(Family Business at Least 100 Years Old)

Nominations for the 2009 Awards can be made by anyone and are due by November 10, 2008. Click here to submit a nomination online. Once the nomination is received an application will be sent directly to the nominated family business for completion. Awards for 2008 were presented at a gala dinner May 19, 2008 at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel, 2450 Galleria Parkway SE, Atlanta, GA 30339.
