Financial Aid Application Process

(Fall 2007 - Summer 2008 Semesters)

•

To apply for HOPE, Grants, Scholarships, Federal Work-Study, and Loans, please follow the instructions below carefully.

•

Please be aware to receive financial assistance, you must be admitted into a degree-seeking program at KSU.

•

Note: Our priority deadline for Fall 2007-08 is April 1, 2007.

•

You must have all requested documents in our office prior to April 1st to receive priority consideration for additional grants (i.e. Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, etc.) in excess of your basic eligibility.

Overview:

•

Complete the 2007-2008 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the 2007-2008 Renewal FAFSA using 2006 income and asset information.

When you submit a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the Department of Education's (ED's) Central Processing System (CPS) uses the data to check eligibility through data matches and to calculate your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The EFC is used by ED and Kennesaw State to determine aid eligibility.

Make sure you sign your FAFSA. There are three ways to sign:

·

Electronically with a PIN. New student filers and parents of dependent students will need to apply for a PIN with the U.S. Department of Education prior to submitting their FAFSA application.

·

By printing and mailing a signature page after you submit the application.

·

By signing a copy of your SAR and returning it in the mail (this will extend processing time by 2 weeks or more).

Kennesaw State University's Title IV school code is 001577. You must enter this number for KSU to receive your information. If you neglect to enter 001577 on your FAFSA, we have no way of knowing that you have applied for financial aid.

•

If you have attended any post-secondary institution (other than KSU) after July 1, 2005, your previous financial aid history will be obtained from the National Student Loan Database System (NSLDS) by KSU Office of Student Financial Aid.

•

Once your federal application has been processed, you will receive an e-mail notification fom the Department of Education. Follow the instructions detailed in your notification to view your Student Aid Report (SAR). If you listed KSU as one of the schools on your application, KSU will receive the electronic report at the same time. Read Part I of the SAR carefully to determine if the processor needs any additional information. Make sure that all the information on Part II is correct.

•

If you are selected for federal verification by the federal processor or KSU, you will need to submit the appropriate 2006 federal tax return(s) and verification worksheets. If any additional information is needed, The Office of Student Financial Aid will contact you via e-mail or you can check Owl Express.

•

Once all documents have been received and reviewed and you have been admitted into a degree program at KSU, you will be e-mailed an Award Notification through Owl Express. Follow the Award Notification's instructions to view the aid you are eligible to receive. Remember, an award notification is is just exactly that-a notification.

•

Remember, an award notification is simply documentation of your eligibility. There is more to be done. See the Student Loan Application Process and/or one of the Financial Aid Checklists listed below under Detailed Instructions for complete details.

Satisfactory Academic Progress

The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended by Congress, requires that a student maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress in their course of study to continue receiving Federal Title IV Financial Aid. Failure to maintain satisfactory academic progress will result in the loss of Federal Title IV Financial Aid. Federal Title IV Financial Aid includes the Pell Grant, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Perkins Loan, Subsidized Stafford Loan, Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, PLUS Loan, State Incentive Grant, and HOPE Scholarship/Grant.

Determining Satisfactory Academic Progress involves several different criteria. Students must meet or exceed all SAP requirements to continue receiving financial aid. These standards apply to part-time students as well as full-time students. You should familiarize yourself with the requirements of Satisfactory Academic Progress.
