Welcome
Welcome to the Department of Foreign Languages at Kennesaw State University. Our Department is dedicated to offering students the opportunity to
develop proficiency in one or more languages other than English. By mastering a second or third language, students enhance
their understanding of other peoples and cultures, both past and present.
The Department offers a single major, the B.A. in Modern Language and Culture, with four Concentrations: Second Language and Culture, Teacher Certification in Foreign Language (leading to P-12 teacher certification), Applied Business, and Cross-disciplinary Perspectives. Minors are available in Spanish,
French and Francophone Studies, German Studies and Italian Studies, and we are in the process of developing an additional minor in Chinese. We also teach Latin, Japanese, Hebrew and Russian through the intermediate levels as well as a variety of other languages through the Critical Languages Program: Arabic, Korean, Portuguese and Swahili. The Foreign Language Education Program (FLED) and the Alternative Teacher Preparation (ATP) program are also integral parts of the Department.
In support of our classroom experiences, we sponsor and encourage participation by all students in internships, studies
abroad, and extracurricular activities such as our language clubs,
conversation "circles," special lectures, and film series. Our Foreign Language Resource Center, a 40-seat computer laboratory and library, offers tutorial assistance in all languages offered in the Department as well as current periodical materials in a variety of languages.
We hope that you will find our web site useful and informative.
Welcome!
