Admission to the Teacher Education Program in Foreign Languages: French or Spanish
(BA in Modern Language & Culture: Concentration II)
Timing is crucial for success. Students interested in pursuing a degree in Modern Language & Culture (ML&C) with a concentration in foreign language education (Concentration II: Teacher Certification) should schedule an appointment with an advisor in the Department of Foreign Languages as early as possible (French or Spanish: Dr. William Griffin). In order to apply for admission to the program, students must meet all the teacher education admission requirements of the Bagwell College of Education and the additional program requirements of the Department of Foreign Languages.
Before you can enroll in professional education courses (INED 3304, FLED 3303, FLED 4410, etc.), you must be formally admitted to teacher education at KSU. Applications for admission are available in the Office of the Teacher Education Admission, 3rd floor of Kennesaw Hall, or online at

Additional criteria for admission to the FLED program include:
- An oral interview in the target language with Dr. Bernardy (Spanish; abernard@kennesaw.edu ) or Dr. Griffin (French; wgriffin@kennesaw.edu ). It is best to schedule this interview near the completion of the 2002 intermediate courses (FREN 2002/SPAN 2002). The taped interview takes about 30 minutes and is evaluated by the faculty in the Department of Foreign Languages.
- An evaluation from the instructors of your two most recent French or Spanish courses, assessing your skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, as well as your potential for success in the program. If you've not had any courses at the 3000-level, one evaluation from FREN 2002 or SPAN 2002 will suffice. Click here to obtain the form, deliver it to your instructor who will submit it to the FLED Coordinator.
- Grades in French or Spanish courses taken at KSU.
Other requirements:
- Submit a signed and notarized Criminal History Consent Form so that a background check can be conducted by Kennesaw State University. Applications cannot be reviewed until criminal history clearance has been obtained.
