Bafa Bafa: A Cultural Experience
Darlene Martin, Assistant Director of Project IDEAS Training Institute
Continuing Education, Kennesaw State University

Have you ever worked with someone from another country/culture/department, traveled outside the US, been to New Orleans...you get the drift... wondered why "they" do it "that way"? In this well-known cross-cultural simulation game you will experientially explore how stereotypes of other cultures (departments, divisions, work groups, occupations, etc.) are formed and perpetuated. Such stereotypes can make it difficult for people to work together effectively. Following the simulation, participants discuss their experiences and how to apply them to their work and personal lives. (Course part of the Holistic Wellness Certificate)

What’s your DQ? Discovering Diversity
Kathy Matthews, Director for the First-Year Experience Program
University College, Kennesaw State University

Responding effectively to diversity issues takes the commitment and understanding of everyone in our University community. In this course you complete a confidential self-assessment called the Discovering Diversity Profile®. The profile is designed to help you look honestly at yourself to identify attitudes and behaviors that stand in the way of teamwork. The Discovering Diversity Profile® is completely confidential and provides an effective tool to help you explore diversity in the following key areas:

Knowledge: Discover what you actually know about differences by looking at stereotypes and at the source of your knowledge or information
Understanding: Decipher your level of awareness and explore your willingness to put yourself in a position to feel what others may be feeling
Acceptance: Examine your patience and regard for respecting different beliefs and behaviors
Behavior: Assess how you act out your attitudes toward others, your flexibility and openness in dealing with others, and your awareness of patterns of interaction.
(Course part of the Office Professional Certificate)
