Karen Paonessa has over twenty-four years of service in higher education at both public and private institutions.

She started her career at Boston University working directly for the President, John Silber. She also worked on John Silber’s gubernatorial campaign as well as his book Straight Shooting. Through the years she has worked extensively in North America, South America, Europe, Mideast & Asia in all areas of development, alumni and external relations.

She has served as the Vice President of Advancement for the past two years and continues to serve as the Director of Foundation Programs at Kennesaw State University, a position she has proudly occupied for the past twelve years. She served as Chair of the Anne Frank Committee, which has raised visibility and funds for the Anne Frank in the World Exhibit. She has worked with world re-known artist, Eino, on the installation of the sculpture “Spaceship Earth” based on the environmental message that humans have a responsibility to take care of the earth. She is a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and holds a certificate for International Fundraising.

Karen is married to Dean Paonessa and has a nine-year old son, Dominic. She is an avid runner and enjoys all sports and outdoor activities. In her spare time, she writes children's book.
