The KSU Foundation accepts and manages gifts and donations. A gift or donation is a voluntary and irrevocable transfer of money or property from a donor with no specified services or deliverables, no formal agreement, and usually no restrictions on how or when the money is used. Gifts and donations do not require technical or financial reports. Questions about gifts and donations should be directed to University Development.

Grants and Contracts vs. Gifts

In general, KSU’s Office of Sponsored Programs handles all grant proposals and contract negotiations on behalf of the university. A grant or contract is an agreement formalizing the transfer of money or property from a sponsor in exchange for specified services or deliverables (e.g., research, surveys, technical reports), sometimes including proprietary rights to and products derived from the services. Grants and contracts nearly always require that the recipient produce financial and/or technical reports detailing actual use of the money and/or project results. The agreement is enforceable by law, there is a specified time frame for performance, and payment is usually dependant upon completion of services. Questions about grants and contracts should be directed to the Office of Sponsored Programs.

Staff members at either office will assist you in determining whether your question is about a grant or a gift. When appropriate, the Office of Sponsored Programs and University Development work together. In addition the appropriate University Development Director will be your primary contact to assist in your needs with respect to our offices.

Please contact us to determine who can best assist you.
