Science and Mathematics Scholarships
The College of Science and Mathematics has received $1.4 million in grants for scholarships and support from The National Science Foundation.
The Scholarship Program in Science and Mathematics is designed to increase the retention and graduation rates of students in one of the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The awards will be given to incoming freshmen who have expressed an interest in one of the science or mathematics majors. The scholarships are $3,000 per year.
The KSU/GT Robert Noyce Scholars Program will provide $10,000 a year in scholarships to KSU and Georgia Institute of Technology undergraduates during their senior year of undergraduate education, and during their enrollment in KSU's 15-month Master of Arts in Teaching program. At the end of the two-year period, participants will be fully certified to teach chemistry or physics in Georgia and are required to complete two years of teaching in a high-need school district for each year of support.

Student-Managed Investment Fund
Gene and Pat Henssler contributed $100,000 to establish the Student- Managed Investment Fund within the Coles College of Business. The fund will provide students with the opportunity to experience firsthand the techniques of asset management.
KSU Economic Chair Govind Hariharan and Associate Professor Stephano Mazzotta are the creators of the fund and will supervise the students.

Gene Henssler came to KSU in 1986 as an associate professor of finance and founded Henssler & Associates in 1987. In 1993, he left teaching to work full time in wealth management. G.W. Henssler Group is currently the seventh-largest financial planning and advisory firm in metro Atlanta.

College of the Arts 
Gwendolyn Brooker pledged $100,000 to the College of the Arts to establish an endowed scholarship and name the new music rehearsal hall in the recently opened Dr. Bobbie Bailey and Family Performance Center. Brooker is an opera coach and a longtime supporter of the music program at KSU. She is also an accompanist and coach for COTA music students. The 3,600-square-foot rehearsal hall will be named in honor of Brooker and her late husband, Eric.

College of Humanities and Social Sciences

The Harnisch Family Foundation has awarded a $51,000 grant to Leonard Witt, KSU's Robert D. Fowler Distinguished Chair in Communication, to support a trial run of a concept called representative journalism."

The idea envisions communities funding journalists who deliver Web-based, local news. Witt is launching his project in Northfield, Minn., on "Locally Grown," an Interactive Weblog and podcast.

Douglas E. Jones
Senior Vice President, Senior Production Officer, The Southern Company
Jones has 26 years of experience with the Southern Company and its affiliates. Currently, as vice president, he is responsible for coal, gas and hydro generation for the Georgia Power Company, and as senior production officer of Southern Company Generation, he manages the generation of electricity for the company's retail markets and competitive wholesale business.

Brent D. Armstrong

Brent Armstrong & Associates is a commercial real estate company located in Atlanta. Clients include Digital Insurance, Magnatrax and Delta Air Lines. Before founding his own company, Armstrong served as senior vice president and development officer at Peterson Properties.

The Athletics Department has formed two steering committees for the campaign. Co-chairs for the Existing Sports Committee are Ron Bell, president and founder of Bell Capital Management, and Caric Martin, west regional president of Georgian Bank.
Co-chairs for the New Sports Committee are Millard Choate, president of Choate Construction Company, and SteveYenser, executive vice president of Cousins Properties.
