Note that minimal requirements for Certification must be met in Sections B through G. Higher requirements for Certification with Distinction must be met in B, C, E, and H or I.   Meets Criteria for Certification Meets Criteria for Certification with Distinction Does Not Meet
         
1. Knowledgeable Global Perspectives
Section B Global Coursework
For Certification undergraduates must complete at least 12 semester hours required (6 for graduate students) with a passing grade of C or higher (B or higher for graduate courses).
For Certification with Distinction undergraduates must complete at least 24 semester hours required (12 for graduate students) with a passing grade of C or higher (B For graduate courses).
 
Section C Education Abroad -
For Certification completion of at least 4 weeks of acceptable education abroad required (can be cumulative experiences).
For Certification with Distinction completion of at least 8 weeks of acceptable education abroad required (can be cumulative experiences).
 
         
2. Effective Intercultural Engagement Skills
Section “D” Foreign Language Proficiency (Skills) -
For Certification a persuasive description of what the applicant has attained and has at least a beginner’s/novel level of oral proficiency in one or more foreign languages.
For Certification with Distinction a description of the applicant’s independent verification of oral proficiency at the “high intermediate” or greater level in at least one non-native foreign language using ACTFEL oral proficiency exam results or equivalent evidence (supporting evidence should be attached). Visiting International Students whose native/first language is not English have satisfied these criteria by meeting KSU’s ESL admission requirements and should so be described.
 

Section “E” Cross Cultural Teamwork
For both Certifications strong and substantive examples are described of successful and productive teamwork with individuals or tasks completed inside or outside the classroom.

3. Demonstrated Global Citizenship
Section F Cross Cultural Awareness
For both Certifications a reflective and insightful description of what the applicant has learned about his/her native nation/culture and how it is influenced by other nations/cultures around the globe.
 
Section G Cross Cultural Community Service
For both Certifications one or more strong and substantive examples of productive and valued community service that benefited individuals from other nations/cultures.
 
Section I Cross Cultural Immersion
For Certification with Distinction complete either H or I. One or more meaningful experiences of being immersed in a different nation/culture for an extended period of time (e.g., through home-stay, work or internship abroad) are described along with a reflective account of what was learned from that cross0cultural immersion experience.
 
Section J Leadership/Recognition in Global Citizenship
For Certification with Distinction complete either H or I. Substantive examples of leadership roles assumed and/or recognition/awards received for work and contributions as a global citizen are persuasively described.
