This four-week intensive Chinese language immersion study abroad program in the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai is designed to move students quickly into a higher level of proficiency in spoken Chinese. The program offers multi-level classes; no background in the language required. The program also includes cultural activities and extended extracurricular conversation opportunities designed to complement and encourage language acquisition. Excursions to cultural and historical centers in Shanghai and surrounding areas including Hangzhou area are organized to further advance the acquisition of spoken Chinese.

Courses: Students will earn 9 credit hours from the following:
CHNS 1001, 1002 (SA 2290) Intro to Chinese Language & Culture I & II
- CHNS 2001, 2002 (SA 2290) Intermediate Chin Lang. & Cult I & II
- CHNS 3200 (SA 4490) Critical Reading and Applied Writing
- CHNS 3302 (SA 4490) Practical Conversation
- FL 4490 (SA 4490) Advanced Chinese
- FL 4490 (SA 4490) Chinese Language Practicum
Students should check with the study abroad office on their home campus for course equivalents.
The Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) foreign residence hall, in which the double rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, desks, and a private bath. Rooms have internet access.
Minimum 2.0 GPA and Good Academic Standing.
No previous study of Chinese language required.
$2,990.00 program cost includes roundtrip airfare from Atlanta, program excursions, housing at Shanghai International Studies University, and some meals. Cost does not include chinese visa fee or tuition; KSU tuition is paid separately during Summer registration. Please note the program cost is subject to slight change should airfare rates increase at the time of purchase.
