THE GEORGIA CONSORTIUM FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDIES
The Georgia Consortium for International Studies (GCIS) Inc. is a collaborative partnership of seventeen (17) University System of Georgia institutions aimed at internationalizing the faculty of member institutions. The Consortium was founded in 1968 and has operated continuously since that time. In recent years the GCIS has sought to identify neglected areas in the USG international education infrastructure, and to devise programs or activities to address those needs. Current programs include:

The GCIS Spring Symposium: For the past two years the GCIS has organized spring symposia for USG faculty who have participated in internationalization seminars and study abroad programs. Titled “Into the Classroom: Incorporating Faculty Seminars and Teaching Abroad in to the Curriculum,” these highly effective symposia have enabled faculty to share with colleagues how their international experiences have impacted their classroom teaching. The 2004 symposium is on March 12-13 2004 in the Continuing Education center, Clayton College and State University. To participate in the symposium complete this Application Form

The GCIS Student Prizes: Each year at the spring symposium, the GCIS awards three cash prizes totaling $1,200 to honor outstanding students from member institutions in the area of international studies. Details, including application forms may be found at GCISprize

Teaching the Middle East II: October 29-31, 2004: The GCIS in collaboration with the USG Middle East Council and the Georgia Middle East Studies Consortium, and with the generous support of the Global Partnership Program of the University System of Georgia, will present a faculty workshop on the Middle East intended for non-specialists in the arts, humanities and social sciences.
