Participants will spend four weeks in the historic and artistic colonial city of San Cristobal de las Casas (above). Students will live with host families and take Spanish courses at the Instituto Jovel. The program will include a three-day excursion to Agua Azul, Misol-Ha and the Mayan ruins at Palenque. San Cristobal is the former colonial city of Chiapas, perched in the mountains and surrounded by traditional Maya villages where the old ways are preserved, including backstrap loom weaving of incredible beauty. San Cristobal is a stop on the "Ruta Maya" and attracts many European and American visitors each year.

Course Offerings:
Participants can take a total of 6 CR HRS from the following:

SA 2290/SPAN 1001, 1002, 2001, 2002
SA 4490/SPAN 3302 Practical Conversation
SA 4490/SPAN 4434 Topics in Language, Literature & Culture

Non-Modern Language & Culture Majors may take two lower level courses during the program, such as SPAN 1001 and SPAN 1002 if they wish.
NOTE: Modern Language & Culture Majors may take SPAN 2002 and SPAN 3302 or SPAN 3302 and SPAN 4434.

Housing:
Students live with host families. All meals are provided.

$2,630.00 Program Cost includes airfare, housing, all meals, program-related excursions, and emergency health insurance. Price does not include tuition. Financial Aid applicable.
