The Great Books curriculum includes a five week Maymester each year required to complete the cohort experience. These study abroad experiences are funded jointly between the student and institution. Often students are lodged with local families to gain an even greater appreciation of the culture. Instruction includes lectures, field trips and projects.
The Montepulciano,Italy Summer Study abroad program allows students an opportunity to take lower and upper division course work in historic Tuscany. Montepulciano is centrally located between Rome and Florence with accessible bus and rail transportation to the rest of Italy. Kennesaw State University has overseen this study abroad program, a consortium among Georgia College & State University, Georgia Southern University, and Kennesaw State University, since 2000.
Venues may differ from year to year, but are selected to support KSU's commitment to global initiatives and regions where many of the Great Books were authored. Among other locations destinations may include Italy, Great Britain, Scotland or Ireland.
