This website was written and designed
as part of my Honors Applied Learning Experience for the Kennesaw State
University Honors Program. I would like to acknowledge Dr. Liza
Davis, Director of the Honors Program, for all of the support that she has
given me during this project and so many others. I would also like to thank
my Honors mentor and Chair of the History and Philosophy Department, Dr.
Howard Shealy, for all of his help and support during my time at KSU. I
would especially like to thank Dr. Elsa Nystrom, without whom this project
would have been impossible. The idea for this database was conceived by Dr.
Nystrom, her students performed the interviews for her class, and she
provided me with the materials and the advising that I needed to complete
this task. Thanks also to the Honors Council for reviewing and considering
this project. Finally, I would like to thank the people who experienced
these events and shared their stories with KSU students and other students
of modern history; this is an invaluable gift to the study of history. I
hope that this website database will be a useful research tool to everyone
visiting it, and I hope that those who read these interviews will be as
touched by the stories of the interviewees as I was.
