A Minor in History

 

To earn a minor in History:

1. Students must complete fifteen (15) hours of course work in History at least 12 hours of which must be non-duplicative of the requirements for the student’s major.   

2. Students must select from one of the four tracks in history listed below and complete the hours as specified in that track.  Prerequisites for individual courses can be found in the course description section of the undergraduate catalog.

3. History 4000  or History 4490 may be allowed in any track with approval of the Department Chair.

 

 

1.                  World History: History 2206 – Origins of the Great Traditions (required). And choose four additional courses from:

 

History 3305 – The World since 1945

History 3334 – The Africans in the Disapora,

History 3335 – African American History 1865 to Present,

History 3366 – History of Mexico & Central America,

History 3367 – History of Brazil,

History 3373 – Modern India & South Asia,

History 3374 – Modern China & Japan,

History 3376 – Problems and Philosophies of World History,

History 3382 – North Africa & the Middle East in Modern Times,

History 3391 – History of West Africa,

History 3392 – History of Southern, Eastern & Central Africa,

History 3393 -  Emerging Themes in African History,

History 4475 – War and Revolution in Southeast Asia.

 

2.                  U. S. History: History 2111 – America to 1890 (Required).  And choose four additional courses from:

 

History 3304 – History of Georgia,

History 3311 – The New South,

History 3315 – History of the American West,

History 3321 – Diplomatic History of the United States,

History 3325 – Introduction to Public History,

History 3326 – Historic Preservation,

History 3331 – History of Religion in the United States,

History 3332 – U.S. Social and Cultural History,

History 3335 – African American History 1865 to Present,

History 3340 – U.S. Military Experience,

History 3341 – Women in U.S. History & Culture,

History 3345 – Business & Economic History of U.S,

History 3377 – History of Science,

History 4410 – Colonial America from Pre-Columbus to 1789,

History 4412 – The Early Republic,

History 3315 -  Jacksonian America

History 4425 – Oral History,

History 4426 – Documentation & Interpretation of Historic Sites,

History 4451 – Civil War and Reconstruction,

History 4461 – Guilded Age and Progressive Era,

History 4471 – Recent United States History.

 

3.                  European History: History 2206 – Origins of the Great Traditions (required). And choose four additional courses from:  

 

History 3305 – The World since 1945,

History 3307 – Intro to European Union,

History 3337 – Greek and Roman History,

History 3342 – The Holocaust

History 3350 – England to 1688,

History 3351 – Modern England,

History 3360 – Russian Empire to 1917,

History 3377 – History of Science,

History 4440 – Medieval Europe,

History 4444 – Renaissance and Reformation Europe,

History 4445 – Age of Enlightenment,

History 4454 – 20th Century Europe,

History 4455 – 20th Century Russia,

History 4456 – World War 2.

Philosophy 3310 – Ancient & Medieval Philosophy or Philosophy 3311 – Modern Western Philosophy may be used in lieu of one of the four history courses.

 

4.                  General History: Two Required Courses:  History 2111 (America to 1890) and History 2206 (Origins of the Great Traditions). In addition, choose any three upper level  courses listed above.
