President's Emerging Global Scholars

The President's Emerging Global Scholars (PEGS) program is a cohort within the Undergraduate Honors Program that is designed to groom academic achievers for continued success. Open to first-time, full-time, first-year students of any major, this exceptional program targets high school graduates who achieved at least a 3.5 GPA and either a 1200 SAT or 25 ACT score.

The program is limited to 50 students who are selected through an application process. The PEGS program, a collaborative effort between the Center for Student Leadership and the Honors College, uses a combination of curricular and co-curricular experiences, to provide participants with a distinct advantage as they progress through their college experience.

PEGS fosters a strong first-year community among its participants who attend classes together, study together, and develop strong academic and social ties. The program then continues to provide structured co-curricular opportunities throughout the participating students’ entire university experience. In addition to the benefits that accrue to all Honors students, PEGS students benefit from:

  • International travel during their first year
  • Individualized guidance from a one-on-one mentor
  • A supportive social network
  • Preparation for national scholarships (Fulbright’s, Truman’s, etc.)
  • Participation in undergraduate research
  • Assistance with pre-professional school and graduate school applications
