Facilities
The Department of Health, Physical Education, and Sport Science is housed in a $17 million Convocation Center. There are eight instructional classrooms equipped with multimedia computer technology for faculty and student use during class sessions. Equipment is available for making both Power Point and streaming video presentations. There are two instructional gymnasiums and a new 2400 sq ft weight facility. There is a computer lab that is available for student use Monday-Friday.
The department has three instructional laboratories which contain state-of-the-art teaching and research quality equipment.
- Exercise Physiology Lab – 1063 sq ft
- Biomechanics/ Motor Learning Lab – 772 sq ft
- Fitness Assessment Lab – 1500 sq ft
Within these lab facilities, we have numerous large and small equipment items including:
- Ariel Motion Analysis System
- Biodex muscle function testing system with an Noraxon Electromyograph
- Three metabolic testing systems (3 Parvo systems and 1 Cosmed system)
- Four electrocardiographs
- Lode electronically braked bike
- Hydrostatic weighing system
- GE Lunar Prodigy Bone Densitometer
- Complete wet lab for performing chemical analyses
- Multiple cardiovascular and muscular fitness assessment stations
Collectively, the equipment in all of these laboratories is valued at approximately $700,000.
Currently, under construction is a new Health Sciences building that will include additional laboratory and office space for the department in 2010.
