Family Status Change
Certain life occurrences may necessitate mid-year changes in benefits status or enrollment. An employee who experiences one of the occurrences listed below can make benefits enrollment changes within 31 days of the event. Appropriate documentation may be needed depending on the nature of the change. Employees who do not initiate Family Status Changes within the 31 day window must wait until the annual open enrollment period to make changes. Please note that the Regents Indemnity Dental Plan with BCBS is not available during the annual open enrollment period without coinciding proof of loss of coverage.
Examples of Family Status Change events are:
- Adoption or Birth - contact your HR Partner
- Death of a Dependent - contact your HR Partner
- Dependent's Loss of Full Time Student Status - contact Melissa Whisler
- Divorce - use HR Self Service
- Job Status Change for Spouse - contact your HR Partner
- Marriage (of the employee or a dependent) - use HR Self Service
A dependent who loses coverage due to a Family Status Change will be offered continuation of benefits under COBRA. Employees who experience a family status change may also wish to update their tax withholding status.
