Religious Holidays

For your information, these are the dates of major Christian, Jewish and Muslim holidays which will occur while the University is in session during 2008-2009. This information is provided in order that you may know of potential schedule conflicts involving employees and students.

Jewish holidays begin at sunset on the evening before the date given.

Muslims holidays begin at sunset on the evening before the date given. Muslim holidays are based on a lunar calendar. The actual dates are determined by direct observation of the moon and announced by the mosque.

Consideration should be given to employees wishing to take leave for religious observances not recognized as University holidays. This time off can be taken as vacation leave or as unpaid leave and should not be denied to employees unless it creates undue hardship within a department.
