American
Humanics Student Requirements
for Certification in Nonprofit Management
Kennesaw State University
Students
seeking American Humanics Certification through the Center
for Public and Nonprofit Leadership must fulfill the requirements
for and earn a baccalaureate degree in accordance with
Kennesaw State University standards*. Human Services majors
must satisfactorily complete the following academic and
co-curricular requirements:
Academic
Requirements
Students
must complete all the course requirements for the Human
Services degree program. Additionally, students must take
the following courses to fulfill the competency requirements:
1.
HS 4490 Special Topics in Human Services
2.
HS 3540 Grant Writing and Fundraising
3.
HS 3560 Human Resources Management in Nonprofit Organizations
4.
Two approved electives in the Case Managment Concentration
Co-curricular
Requirements
Required
co-curricular learning experiences include:
1.
Active participation in the American Humanics Student
Association according to the KSU AHSA by-laws.
2.
Organizing and attending one or more Fall or Spring retreat.
3.
Organizing and attending one or more annual Recognition
Dinner.
4.
Participation in community service activities, which are
separate from other AHSA activities and requirements (10
hours).
5.
In conjunction with Ms. Slater, students will participate
in 450 hours of internship in a nonprofit organization.
Ms. Slater and the Campus Director, prior to completing
the required internship paperwork, must approve internships
that are not with nonprofit organizations.
6.
Attendance at one or more annual American Humanics Management
Institute**.
*Students
may complete certification requirements with post-baccalaureate
status. Please see or call the Campus Director, Dr. Louise
Bill at 770-423-6408 for advisement.

Students are required to raise the funds to meet their
own expenses to the Management Institute (approximately
$600 per person). Student Association fundraising efforts
supplement individual efforts and provide a unique learning
experience prior to the Institute.
