Welcome

Thank you for your interest in graduate social work education at Kennesaw State University.

Our program offers intensive clinical training in two specialty areas: Family and Children Services, and Substance Abuse Services. We are committed to preparing students for advanced clinical practice in these two areas so that graduates can fulfill the growing societal demands for skilled social work practitioners.

The Master of Social Work program (MSW) was formally admitted to candidacy by the Council on Social Work Education in October, 2005. As a result, upon receiving the MSW degree you will be fully qualified to seek licensure as a professional social worker (LMSW) and, after the required post-graduate clinical supervision, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

Professional social workers serve as counselors in schools, hospitals, mental health clinics, non-profit human service agencies, law enforcement and the military services. Social workers are also key members of intervention and treatment teams confronting the problems of substance abuse, domestic violence, and child abuse.

We make every attempt to provide the support necessary to our students to excel in their preparation to serve their communities. Students will receive a personal faculty mentor for guidance and support throughout their training program. We offer Title IV-E Child Welfare stipends, research and teaching assistantships, and other agency based stipends. Additionally, we continue to develop resources to assist students in funding their studies.

Please feel free to contact us if we can answer specific questions or send you any materials that will help you make a decision about your graduate studies. You are also welcome to visit our campus and meet our faculty as you further consider our program.

Again, thank you for your interest in Kennesaw State University’s exciting new Master’s in Social Work program.

Sincerely,

Alan B. Kirk, PhD, LCSW
