Welcome to the Kennesaw State University Institutional Review
Board (IRB) website. The purpose of the IRB is to make certain that people who participate
in research are treated ethically. To accomplish
this, an Approval Request application must be sent to the Board for approval
before any data is gathered.
Research
is defined as any planned investigation that is designed
to produce generalizable knowledge. Any administration of
a substance or stimulus, interview, test, use of records
that identify living individuals, or observations of non-public
behavior must be approved by the IRB. An exception of this
rule is the routine classroom investigation of student knowledge
gained, attitude change, or satisfaction. Research involving
more than minimal risk, or involving the use of research
participants who are under 18 years of age, prisoners, or
who for some reason are unable to give informed consent
for their participation will generally require several weeks
for approval.
If
you have any questions concerning the Board, please send
them to Dr. Ginny Zhan, IRB Chairperson, at gzhan@kennesaw.edu,
or to Paula Strange, IRB Administrator, at pstrange@kennesaw.edu.
