About the Proxy Server
Kennesaw State University’s proxy server (EZproxy) acts as an intermediary between your computer and the Library's licensed electronic resources by virtually providing your machine with a KSU IP address.
Our vendors generally serve their content freely to any computer on the KSU campus with an IP address that is within the range of addresses known to belong to the KSU network.
So if your computer is connecting to the internet from outside the campus domain, the Library's licensed resources will refuse your requests for data. Either they will reject your connection outright, or they may present you a logon screen where one would enter a subscriber's username and password.
However, if you, as a valid KSU user (student, faculty, staff), connect through the Library's proxy server, your browser sends requests for the Library's licensed electronic resources to the proxy server, and the proxy server requests those resources for you. Since the proxy server is a computer in the IP range of KSU’s domain, the vendor serves the data and the proxy server forwards it to your browser.
Your NetID must be activated to enable the proxy server to recognize you as a valid KSU user. Go to https://netid.kennesaw.edu/ for more information and to set up your own account.
Your browser must be set to accept "cookies." Browsers accept cookies by default, so if you have changed that setting, reset to the default. The proxy server cookie is not used to track your use, but only to let the proxy server monitor your authenticated status. This cookie will disappear when you exit your browser. If you share a computer, it is important that you exit the browser prior to other users using that computer so that this authentication cookie will expire.
