What is Interlibrary Loan?
When library patrons are unable to locate a book or article in print or from a fulltext online resource, they may use the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service to request a copy of that item from another library.

How do I make a request?
To make a request, you must first create an account. Once your account has been created, then you may begin requesting material.

Who can use it?
Our Interlibrary loan service is only available to currently enrolled KSU students, faculty and staff.

How long does it take?
On average, 7 to 10 days; however, there are a number of determining factors. ILL recommends that patrons to allow up to three weeks to receive items.

How many items can I request?
Faculty and staff are limited to requesting no more than 30 items per day. Students are limited to no more than 15 items a day.

How much does it cost?
The KSU Library does not charge for Interlibrary Loan.

Regulations and Renewals
  • Note: Due to a change in policy, Interlibrary Loan will no longer accept requests for required textbooks. Check with the bookstore for availability of these titles.
  • The loan period for books varies from 14 days to 60 days depending on the policy of the library lending the book. The due date will be clearly indicated on the ILL wrapper when you pick up the book.
  • There are no renewals on some books and this is indicated on the ILL wrapper. All other books can be renewed by simply logging on to your ILLiad account and choose the "View/Renew Checked Out Items" button.
  • Photocopies of articles do not need to be returned.
  • Telephone, FAX, or direct email requests for new interlibrary loans will not be accepted.
  • Return ILL books directly to the Sturgis Library. Do not use the Book Drop.
  • All Interlibrary Loan materials are subject to recall by the lending library when a recall notice is received. Patrons must return materials immediately.

Borrower responsibilities
  • Do not remove the book strap or label from the cover of the book.
  • Return borrowed material on time.

Special instructions are on the book strap and may include: a) For Library Use Only; b) Photocopying Not Allowed; c) No Renewals; d) Sign Dissertation User Page.
  • Take proper care of borrowed material and return it in good condition. You are liable for any lost or damaged material. If you loan borrowed material to anyone else, you are still responsible for getting it back to the library on-time. Not the person you loaned it to. You. It does not matter if you loaned it to your best friend, your professor, or your mother. You will be held responsible.

What if I have a problem?
  • Requests are likely to be rejected if you have provided insufficient or incomplete citation information. Ask at the reference desk if you have a problem locating the complete citation.
  • Requests will be rejected if the library has access to the item in question. Doublecheck the library's holdings, and ask for help at the reference desk if necessary.
  • If you have a problem with your account, contact the ILL department by phone at 770-423-6002, or by sending an email to illoan@kennesaw.edu.
